Receiving Communities

As floods, fires and drought increase internal displacement, some cities are positioning themselves as receiving communities for climate migrants. I am examining the evolution of the concept of the climate destination, analyzing what motivates cities to plan for climate migration, how they deliver on these plans, and what effects this has on local development dynamics and inter-city competition. I am paying special attention to the role of local economic development and business attraction, considering how firm location decisions concerning risk and resilience will shape the geography of opportunity in cities.
